the lost island of Pleasure Beach, Ct.

The Fairfield County island called Pleasure Beach was home to an amusement park and many quaint beach cottages. It was only accessible by ferry service and a wooden bridge. It was a popular beach resort but after a part of the bridge burned in 1996 it was cut off from the mainland and was accessible only by boat or a lengthy hike along the shoreline at low tide. In 2007 the Town of Stratford forced he residents to move and the island became uninhabited except for nesting birds and wildlife.

Ghost town Lexington NY

The Greene County NY town of Lexington was once a popular summer resort with many grand  hotels and camps. The two remaining large wooden hotels sit across from each other on the Schoharie Creek.
Of the few private houses in the village many were abandoned even before Hurricane Irene devastated the town.
